Penguin footprints on the pavements, spectacular themed table centres courtesy of Roseparks, a flock of 60 hand-made metal flamingos created especially by the Zoo’s blacksmith, the late John ‘JR’ Ramsay and face-painted service staff set the scene for the 600 guests to experience something unique.
Guests enjoyed a champagne reception before visiting Animal Kingdom accompanied by live African drum music.
Expertly compèred by Scottish television’s Angus Purden, the evening included a showcase of mammals, reptiles and birds from Edinburgh Zoo accompanied by their Keepers, trapeze mermaids, a specially choreographed ‘Happy Feet’ tap-dance routine from a cast of 50 dancing ‘penguins’ preceded animal songs from The MGA Academy of Performing Arts choir all of which provided a special birthday message to the Zoo and of course pandas ‘Sweetie’ Tian Tian and ‘Sunshine’ Yang Guang made a fun appearance too!
The keynote address was delivered by HRH The Princess Royal.
£170,000 was raised for conservation projects including protection of the now endangered Scottish Wild Cat.
i2detail designed the entertainment programme, themed menu from the talented Andrew Hamer at Wilde Thyme, designed unique calligraphy place cards, managed all suppliers to the event, liaised with Buckingham Palace and ensured all security requirements were adhered to.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland wished to celebrate Edinburgh Zoo’s Centenary by staging a memorable event.
To celebrate 100 incredible years, i2detail was commissioned to design and deliver a unique celebration in the presence of The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s Patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.
A fundraising element was also desired to raise funds for conservation projects.
